A Blending Class of Fourth Graders

Blended
My students and I use Edomodo. I find that it is a fairly easy platform for students to navigate. Not only is it an easy communication tool to use with students, but students can use it with each other. Students and I share video links and other educational content. I also like that the student backpack feature on Edmodo allows students to save digital items in their virtual backpack so they may retrieve digital content and work on them at their leisure. A great feature for teachers is that teachers can create online assessments or use the assessments already available on Edmodo.

Capture IT!!

One of the tools I use to blend my classroom is Camtasia Studio to screen capture video lessons. I also use TechSmith's ScreenChomp app and Ask 3 app to create videos to be used on ipads so students may view at their leisure. I sometimes use it for reteaching purposes, as a concept launch, and as a review. Not only do I make videos but my students create videos using two of TechSmith's apps ScreenChomp and Ask3.

Ask3 is a very powerful tool to have students use. They get to share their videos with their peers. The great thing about the Ask3 app is that any of us may leave comments to the person who made the video. As you view the slideshow you'll also see how Camtasia  Studio, ScreenChomp and Ask3 is used in my classroom for math lessons. These TechSmith tools can be used for any subject, however in the slides you will see how my students and I use them for math. Camtasia is a screen recording software that you can use to record what you have on your screen. It also records the audio, and web cam video. Another feature, is that you can narrate PowerPoints presentations.  Using Camtasia you can record, edit, produce and share your course content to make your blending more effective!!!!. Sad news Tech Smith is discontinuing Ask3 in August 2014.

Presentations Matter

There are many different ways that students and teachers can present information to share. My students are using Edmodo to share at least three of their poetry pieces. Students have to provide at least one feedback to a classmate via Edmodo.

My students and I brainstormed about presentation options. Students have the option to use any of the following presentation tools: ScreenChomp, Ask3, Tellagami, Popplet, Word Maker, Weebly, Prezi, PowerPoint, Wix, Slideshare, KidBlog, Vimeo, Pic Collage, Aurasma, Animoto, Youtube, and QR codes. The slides are screenshots of just a few ways we have presented information.  This student used PicCollage to type her poem. Next, she imported the screenshot with the typed poem into the Tellagami app. Then, she recorded herself reading the poem. Lastly, I uploaded the Tellagami video onto Youtube. Click the button below titled View Site to see her multiapped poetry piece shared with the world!
